What Is My Passion Thursdays: Meet Michelle Lockett

Michelle L. Lockett, 29, Philadelphia, PA, is a Registered Nurse who started a non-profit organization (Health Exposure and Longevity Project, Inc [H.E.L.P. Inc]) to expose minorities to optimal physical, emotional and spiritual health. In 2014, she will be going on a World Race- a trek into 11 countries in 11 months to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and heal the sick.
Adventures in Missions is an interdenominational missions organization that focuses on discipleship. We emphasize prayer and relationships in our work amongst the poor (adventures.org)
The World Race is a journey to 11 countries in 11 months to serve "the least of these" while amongst real and raw community. It facilitates discipleship through the process of discovering into the abundant life He promised. It births partnerships with ministries around the world (worldrace.org).
The beautiful thing about my upcoming journey is that I am not sure what each day will look like. One day I may be praying for the sick in a hospital and/or stopping someone on the road to tell the about Jesus while another day I'll be loving on orphans and/or befriending prostitutes who have been forced into the human sex trafficking business. As a Christian, I will be in full-time ministry just as I'd like to be here in the United States.
The countries I'll be visiting include:
Honduras, Guatemala,  El Salvador, Albania, Bulgaria, Zambia,  Malawi, Mozambique, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia
The number 11 has played a significant role in my life. It may be my new favorite number (smiles). To go on the race, you have to raise about 16,000.00. This was a discouraging number to me because my job had just decreased my hours to 11 (11, right?!). So I had a fundraiser on September 11th to "Donate 11.00 on the 11th". To my surprise that day, among gracious 11.00 donations, I received a whopping ANONYMOUS 11,000.00 donation!! That was God!  Furthermore, 11 years ago, I miscarried a child by a man who I was not equally yoked with... a man who took advantage of me in my youth. It is a long story but I told it to some of my fellow "world racers" at our training camp session 11 years to the day and the hour! In that moment, I realized that for the 11 years after I miscarried my child, I'd dealt with men who had deeply rooted issues of their own or men who worshipped me more than they worshipped Jesus. I did this because of my own insecurities after that first situation. One of the speakers at our training camp said, "the issue of your worth was settled at the cross Jesus died on". I don't have to prove that to anyone. Realizing that, I decided to break that cycle. (You can read that entire story at MichelleLockett.com).
I am certainly traveling with a purpose. I am leaving everything behind to "take up my cross" and tell all nations about Jesus. I will be living in a tent for the entire year eating whatever is served to me and will miss so many life events back in the U.S such as weddings, births and engagements (prayerfully, no deaths). Although this may not be the good for my mind, my back and my stomach, it is well with my soul.  I am a Christ follower and I want to be like Jesus and his disciples. The end of the world is coming and I want to make sure everyone who crosses my path knows that Jesus lives and is coming back for all who believe in Him. On the flip side, I don't want to be one of "those" Christians who only knock on doors and tell non-believers they are "going to hell if you don't pray". Some people will never read the bible. Some people will never step foot in the four walls of a "church". I want to be the church. I want to show people who God is through my words and my actions. I want people to see Christ in me at all times. That is the very meaning of my name- "one who is like God". That means I need to love on everyone I see. No discrimination, no judgment- like Jesus did. Everyone has a story and we all want love. God IS love.
Please follow along my journey! My website is MichelleLockett.com. I will be exclusively telling my story there. I also have a Facebook page where I will post exclusive pictures during my race. You can like my page at Michelle Lockett's World Race.

    1. Ms. Pamela,

Thank you so much! Yes, Miracles really do happen! At that moment right before I received that $11,000 donation, I had $400.00 in my World Race support account and had a $3500.00 deadline to make our training camp in a couple of weeks. I had no idea how I was going to raise all of that money. I was desperate. But in the moment I surrendered, God showed up.. and showed OUT! He always has done that for me after I completely put my trust in Him. I am learning more and more each day that He will never leave me nor forsake me!

I hope you will subscribe to my blog site. I plan to write all about how God will move in my life and in the life of all the nations I will be serving.

I will also pray for you to receive the desires of your heart. Thank you for your kind words. If you have any specific prayer requests, you can also e-mail me at michelle.lockett84@gmail.com. :-)

      Blessings!!!

      -Michelle

  2. What a testimony Michelle, You are so right, in surrendering to God we will see that, as the bible says, He is able to do exceedingly abundantly over all that we can ask or think. I have seen it in my own life and I am thrilled to see it happening in yours. We all go through lean periods where it seems our passions and goals are out of our reach. And in many cases they literally are out of OUR reach. But with God nothing is impossible and it;'s so funny because my sister and I were recently discussing that even though we have faith and expectation, by the time God gets through our mouths are often left hanging open at the way things worked out for our good.

Keep doing what you're doing and sharing your journey. It is more of an encouragement to us all than you will ever know. Thank you too for your prayers. And yes I will definitely subscribe to your blog and look forward to following your travels and good works. You are making a wonderful difference in the world. :)
